Google Video, explaining how to improve your rankings if you use lots of video or images on your website.

meta keyword tags google no yahoo yes

I was doing some research on  meta keyword tags, that I though I would share.

Google ignores keywords placed in the meta tag  – see Matt Cutt’s Google video with an explanation “Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

However its seems as though Yahoo take meta tag keywords into consideration, see link  How to Improve the Position of Your Website in Yahoo! Search Results

<quote>Use a “keyword” metatag to list keywords for each page of your website. Use distinct lists of keywords that relate to each specific page on the site. Do not use one broad set of keywords for the entire site.</quote> (Last Updated: December 15, 2009).

Bottom line – its not going to hurt your website if you include <meta name=”keywords” content=” ” />

issues updating WordPress from version 2.9.0 to 2.9.1

I was having issues updating WordPress from Version 2.9.0 to 2.9.1 via the core update functionality installed within WordPress’ admin.

I had a plug-in installed called Web Invoicing and Billing after I deactivated this plug-in, I was able to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress Successfully.

If you are having issues upgrading, try deactivate some plug-ins – 1 at a time, before you resort to a manual install.

Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking

Here is a video from Matt Cutt’s discussing Meta Tags.

In brief, keyword meta tags are not used by Google for Search Ranking — <meta name=”Keywords” content=”not used by google” />

However Google still use the description meta tag –  <meta name=”description” content=”keep using meta descriptions ” />
